Dr. John Dee was largely responsible for the birth of the modern world. He was one of the most brilliant men alive in his day and studied at Cambridge as well as the University of Louvain in the Netherlands, where he learned the occult. Study of the occult was not uncommon for the intelligentsia, for at the time, science and magic considered different facets of the same thing. Dee was a Rosicrucian and became one of the most learned men in Europe.
He became the scientific and astrological advisor to Queen Elizabeth. He was also instrumental creating the British intelligence service, signing his letters to Elizabeth “007”.
Spain was the dominant power in Europe when in 1572, a supernova appeared in the constellation Cassiopeia and the world became apocalyptic, taking it as a sign of the end. Dr. Dee had his own version of the apocalypse: the end of the Catholic world. It was at this point that Dee associated himself with an effort to bring about the end of the prevailing world order and the establishment of a new world order. Louv says that the supernova signaled for Dee, “that a new world order was to come—an English Protestant Empire, instead of a Holy Roman one.” Louv says that it was in this religious or spiritual context that,
Dee proposed a “British Empire,” a phrase he coined—for Dee, this would be nothing less than a restoration of the reign of Arthur, as he believed that Arthur’s original colonies were, in fact, in the New World—even that America was Atlantis itself. Dee saw Elizabeth as the living Arthur; himself, Merlin. He formed a company to colonize, (and to seek the) source of all occult wisdom. There is strong evidence that Dee was the intellectual force behind Francis Drake’s 1577-1580 circumnavigation of the globe. … So began the Empire on which the sun never sets, or at least didn’t until the end of the 20th century.
What are we to make of the fact that one of history’s most successful (and brutal) empires, which held much of the globe in its control for four hundred years, and is responsible for the modern world, was masterminded by an alchemist who spoke to angels in a crystal ball?
Indeed, we ought to ponder this interpenetration of spiritual and temporal power. The example draws our attention to the fact that what moderns call secular political power has roots in something beyond material science and technology. Once the eye is opened to this, the evidence is everywhere you look.
Dee applied significant effort to penetrating the other world, as Louv says,
For years, Dee had attempted to apply his knowledge of optics to scrying, or conjuring spirits into a crystal, a common Elizabethan preoccupation. His experiments with various scryers (Dee himself could not see spirits, and instead relied on professional psychics) (bore fruit) in 1581, when a singularly bizarre character arrived in Dee’s life: Edward Kelley, a 26-year-old, alcoholic, overweight “cunning man” and scryer with a reputation for sorcery. …
Over the next ten years, the pair delved headlong into contacting angels … . Dee would perform ritual invocations of the angels, and Kelley would stare into a scrying mirror or crystal ball … .
It was through this contact with the other world that Dee gained his focus on building worldly power. According to the report, a succession of entities appeared in the crystal ball and transmitted messages to the men. Bottom line, these beings had a plan and intended that Dee and Kelley spearhead its execution in the physical world. At this point it is doubtful that Dee and Kelley were the ones in control.
Put simply, the angels wanted nothing less than a New World Order, run by divine principles, and proposed what must be one of the most dangerous ideas in Western history: A world religion, based on love and unity—a supra-Christianity or Terminal Monotheism which would not only reunite Catholicism and Protestantism but even Judaism and Islam into a fused whole; all made possible, of course, by the technology the angels had provided for direct individual contact with the spiritual agents of God instead of relying on terrestrial authority or scripture. Combined with the foundation Dee had already laid for a temporal New World Order under Elizabeth, this new religion would unite the souls of the entire globe, fusing all humanity into one State, and one Church, all directed by the angels themselves—the New Jerusalem.
These beings intended nothing less than the re-unification of all mankind in fulfillment of a Messianic vision of a New Jerusalem; as was famously attempted in antiquity at the Tower of Babel under Nimrod.
But ultimate fulfillment of this vision failed when the entities attempted to amp up the program. Once having Dee and Kelley on track to promote the new world empire, they decided to bring them into sexual sin, instructing them to swap wives. The two practitioners were feeling more and more uncomfortable with their experiments, but after some resistance, the wife-swap was performed. In a session two days following this initiation:
a new presence appeared—the Scarlet Woman, called BABALON in Enochian, and the Whore of Babylon in Revelations. Dee and Kelley were terrified—the pair parted ways and the sessions ceased. 1588 dawned, and the apocalypse the angels promised failed to manifest. …
One wonders what would have happened if Dee and Kelley had stuck to the plan. But they did not, and once Queen Elizabeth I died, her successor, James I waged a fanatical war to suppress, “Elizabeth’s age of High Culture and High Magick.” Dee, and Hermeticism fell into disrepute and the pursuit of it went underground. By this time, Dee was a ruined man, “still adhering to post-Reformation eschatologies that were long past their sell-by date.” However, as far as the discarnate entities were concerned, the work had largely succeeded.
The eminent historian Francis Yates suggests that Dee’s actions on the Continent and writings are responsible for the Rosicrucian occult revolution in Europe that formed the cradle of the Enlightenment and modern science … . The Enochian scholar Stephen Skinner suggests a secret tradition in British high society kept the angelic magic alive—and Dee’s papers in the British Library are well documented as the catalyzing information behind the 19th and 20th century occult revival.
When this guiding influence on the birth of a worldwide underground “occulture” is combined with Dee’s efforts in initiating the Age of Reason and the Age of Imperialism, Dee looks less like an outsider and more like a primary architect of our present reality.
We can see in this example of the rise of the British Empire that what could be described as a Messianic impulse exists within empire to grow until it absorbs the whole world. We can also see that some kind of discarnate entities are inextricably linked with the projection of power and culture and they desire to produce a single world order built upon their postulates. Whatever these entities are – aliens, angels, or higher powers – this begs the question, are there both good and bad ones, and if so which ones engaged Dee and Kelley? What is the nature of these empire-builders?
It seems no coincidence that as Dee and Kelley penetrated deeper and deeper into this energetic vortex they encountered a figure resembling the Whore of Babylon. This biblical character is linked both with the final apocalyptic attempt to create a world empire under a single messianic figure, and with the legendary attempt in antiquity to do the same famously known as the building of the Tower of Babel. Since these entities identified themselves with this story, the end of the story provides a clue as to their nature. It indicates that the empire-builders are not alone, and they have an enemy that destroyed the tower and dispersed their would-be kingdom.
According to the biblical tradition of which the Babel story is a part, this thrust for empire has its roots in the Garden of Eden, where Lucifer first brought the whole human race under his spell and dominion. The biblical record indicates that this dominion has been broken through Jesus Christ but that Lucifer and his angels continue to work toward bringing it back and closing the loop, with all of humanity under the spell of Luciferian illumination and the whole world transformed by its projected light. According to prophetic passages in the Bible, a final world-wide illuminated empire under a Luciferian messiah-figure is yet to come. Like the Tower of Babel, it will be destroyed.
